April 1, 2005
Dear Parents/Guardians:
April will be a month of testing for most students. During the week of April 4, students in Grades 3 and 5 will be taking PSSA assessments. These are State Tests that measure achievement in reading and math. If you have a child in third or fifth grade, I am asking that you make every effort to have him/her in school each day of the testing. We know that students do best when they take these assessments with the class and not when students take make-up tests.
During the week of April 25, all students in grades Kindergarten through 5 will take IOWA Achievement Tests. These standardized assessments will measure skills in reading and math. Results will be sent home in the final report card. Again, please make every effort to have your child in school on these days.
The annual “Explore and Educate Night”, sponsored by the Principal’s Advisory Council (PAC) will be held at A.J. McMullen School on Thursday, April 21. Detailed information will be coming home very soon.
Students will be dismissed at 12:30pm on April 15 and April 29. Parent-Teacher conferences will take place during the afternoon of April 15. On April 29, teachers will receive staff development training.
If you have any relatives or friends with kindergarten age children, we would appreciate you informing them that kindergarten registration will be held at Wharton School on April 20. Parents may contact the school office at (724)329-4248 with any questions regarding registration.
Sincerely,
Edward Fearer, Principal
