Food Services Policy

A K-5 Public School in the Uniontown Area School District

Uniontown Area School District Policy on Food Services was adopted by the Board of Education on February 19. 2002 and addresses such matters as Lost/Stolen and misplaced computerized Snap System meal cards, which are currently utilized in only the Senior High School and Menallen Elementary School, and the parent/guardian responsibility for charged meals as it pertains to all students in all district buildings.
You will note that children who have unpaid lunch charges will not be provided a regular type A meal but will be offered an alternative meal until their account is paid-in-full. On the other hand, if your child has a remaining balance in his/her account at year end, that credit balance can be maintained at the school for the following year, transferred to another district building or refunded to you in a check on your request.
It is your responsibility to determine how your child pays for his/her lunch in a specific building since lunch payment procedures differ by building, particularly for the primary elementary students. Should you have any questions regarding these policies, please contact Mr. Geho’s office (724-437-2897, ext 215) for clarification

 1. LOST/STOLEN AND MISPLACED COMPUTERIZED (SNAP SYSTEM) MEAL CARDS - This policy is not applicable at Wharton Elementary; this school does not use the computerized meal cards system. Policy information on the Snap System is available at the school office or at the Central Administration building.

 2. CHARGED MEALS

 A.  Students who do not have money for a meal on a particular day may request a credit charge from the building cafeteria cashier. The charge is expected to be paid on the following school day. A daily charge list which includes students names, amounts owed and numbers of charges (first, second, third, etc.) will be provided to the building principal for follow-up action.
 B.  If a second request to charge a meal is made by a student, without the previous charge having been paid, such may be granted, the student’s parent/guardian will be called noting that a second charge has been made to the student. The two charges are expected to be paid on the following day.
 C.  Until all unpaid lunch charges are paid in full, students will be provided a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich with Milk as an alternative meal. Reimbuseable meals will be provided to those students who are deemed unable to take full responsibility for unpaid charged meals.
 D.  The Uniontown Area School District policy for unpaid charges for all students (K-12) may result in any or all of the following until delinquent funds are paid-in-full:
     1. Meeting between student counselor and parents
     2. Retention of report card
     3. Not permitted to attend selected activities, i.e., any field trips.
 E.  This policy will be included in a letter to parents at the beginning of each school year and at other times as deemed appropriate by the building principal.
